This semester in FDOM we ( as students) were tasked with the semester long project of nit only creating but maintaining a blog all while still juggling our other duties as a student. Well.. the experience was interesting to say the least. All in all, it was honestly kind of hard to maintain the blog and steady post on it all while going to school and trying to be a good student as well. In terms of promoting the blog I mainly used twitter, but I feel like if I wanted to do that better I would use all forms of social media not just one. I wish I would’ve been able to do more videos on the sight. I feel like if I was still on campus and not at home it would’ve been easier to get this done though especially for my topic. The best experience of all this was really first creating the website and seeing something on the internet that was yours. No one else could claim it but you. This experience has taught me a lot about the importance of deadlines though. Frequently I found myself having to rush to do this stuff at the last minute, because I let life and my other schoolwork and ideas to allow me to procrastinate on this assignment. I’m glad I learned the lesson though as I will take the lesson with me into whatever workplace I end up. My most popular posts were both corona related and at the peak of corona time, which shows the importance of putting out information that is relevant to the current status of the world. All in all, I enjoyed the wordpress experience and I feel better to have went through it.

Well ladies and gentlemen. This is it. We’ve it hit. We have officially hit rock bottom. This is what it feels like. Man. The U.S unemployment rate has sunk to levels not seen before since the great depression. Yes, the great depression. I feel like I’ve said it 100 times now but due the COVID 19 simply can not work. But more than that people really aren’t leaving their house like they used too. Causing people to simply not need or want to buy things as much. And in a capiltilist society this is a recipe for nothing but disaster.

All of this has culminated into the US experiencing unemployment levels that has not been dealt with in decades. Due to this the Unemployment office of the US has been extremely backed up with many people trying to sign up to recieve the benefits. Its gotten so bad where many people have claimed to wait days maybe even weeks to finally come into contact with a representative to assist them in their matters. This has led to many irate citizens as people began to get inpatient dealing with matters that have to do with the wellbeing of them and their family.
This situation only has highlighted the inadequate job that President Trump and his cabinet mates have done in properly preparing our great country for a epidemic such as the one that we are currently experiencing. There is no way that this many people should be absolutely struggling, so many businesses and companies crippled, by something that we as a nation had already previously known about. Makes you wonder… How much different could things be know if we would’ve took this corona stuff serious from the beginning? We will never know forsure, but I can confidently say the numbers would look a lot better then what we’re looking at now.

FINALLY! AFTER MANY ANGRY CALLS, BLOG RANTS, AND PROTEST WE FINALY GOT OUR STIMULUS CHECKS. The government issued the checks on April 24th and from there till about 20 weeks after the checks will be getting issued into the hands of the American citizens. These checks are long overdue as the emergence of covid 19 has put many families in dire situations where they literally can’t work to provide for themselves. Now with all this being said please don’t be fooled my good people. These are so called magic checks didn’t just come out of thin air, you were actually already entitled to that money in the first place.

The governments stimulus checks are nothing more than a mere advance on the money that the its would’ve owed you in the first place. If you do taxes in America you are aware that once a year Uncle Sam returns the favor with a coveted tax return. Well if you got your stimulus… there it is. I will say that does kinda suck, especially when it’s being framed that the government is basically giving away free money. When that’s quite simply not the case. In spite of where the money is coming from, one thing is for certain.. we needed it right now. In a time of such economic downfall this money is the only thing allowing a lot of American families to get their head above water. Hopefully by time its time to get our returns those situation will be all cleared up. I guess we will both just have to wait and

A couple days ago Congress passed a law that would give every adult over the age of 17 1,200 dollars in response to the COVID- 19 pandemic. Obviously there were a few necessary exceptions to the bill like those making a median income of over 150,000 dollars would be left to fend for themselves, but today a new exception was revealed that is utterly proposterous. If your parents claim you as a dependent and you are under the age of 24 you are excluded from the bill. In other words, college kids you get no money.

Can somebody please explain the logic of this one to me? College students are literally one of the demographics that require the most help in trying times such as these. With many food and retail jobs being unavailable as well as any job that requires human interaction, most of the potential jobs for people of the demographic will be non existent. It’s only insane that the U.S is attempting to be so nitpicky about who they give aid too. 

Not only are college students not being awarded aid but for the majority of us…

• No 500$ for our parents because were above the age of 17
• No refunds of student aid
• No housing refund
• No 1200$ because we are dependents of our parents
• No rent forgiveness for off campus living
• STILL NO JOBS

Just because we are now back home does make our situations even remotely similar to high school. I do not want to cripple the back of my hard working mother, but it seems like that what the U. S wants me to do. I still have bills of my own now, especially a hefty school bill. But I guess none that matters to them.

First of all let’s all take ten seconds to take a deep breath…. now exhale. These last months in America have been nothing short of chaotic with the emergence of the global pandemic COVID-19. Due to this many people have been laid off their jobs and are now searching for ways to make money in this stagnant economy. Alas, their efforts have proven to be mainly unfruitful as the job market is scarce at the moment, another effect of the pandemic. So at this point, people are now turning to the government and asking for assistance in such a tough time. In response to this the US government has proposed a bill that will award every U.S citizen above the age of 17 a grand total of 1,200 dollars each, in an effort to stabilize and keep the U.S economy afloat. 

• many Americans are stocking up on necessities in order to prepare for the epidemic.

Finally.. They’re finally doing something right. True in comparison to other nations like Canada, where their citizens will be awarded around 2,000 dollars per month of quarantine,  our new bill seems well quite frankly… not good. But when one takes into account the population and the capitalistic ideals already engraved into American society this bill truly isn’t that bad. With this money a lot of families will be able to pay rent and keep their heads above water during the upcoming times.

We all are going to go through some unprecedented changes within our society due to corona backlash, many of us will be put in trying times. In spite of this if the government can fully step up and support its people in their time of great the inevitable impact of this era could be greatly cushioned.   

Since the beginning of time there has been the haves and the have nots, and in an extremely capitalist society like the United States this notion is perfectly portrayed. The problem is… maybe too much. The economic gap between the rich and poor is growing at an alarming rate while the programs and practices created to aid in stopping this split have remained stagnant.

In fact, if anything these laissez- faire practices have only grown in intensity  as the Trump administration has aimed to redefine the formula of calculating poverty by lowering the impact of inflation rates within the formula. This is just another shot in the foot to an already bullet riddled facate of American economy. Doing this not only distorts the lines of already confusing guidelines and regulations in our economy, but also the impact will be felt throughout many impoverished families as the poverty line will rise at even slower pace. This practice will land many families right on the cusp of getting the government care that they desperately need. Quite frankly, for a government that is meant to uplift ALL of its people ( not just the rich and white) this shit just doesn’t make sense. Time and time it seems like laws are being created for the benefit of those that don’t truly need anymore help, and for the detriment of those who actually need it, which one would think is completely backwards from what was initially intended. Many high name advocates such as Alexandra Ocasio- Cortez (https://twitter.com/nowthisnews/status/1225482538866675713?s=20 ) have joined the fight in making these unchecked injustices, just. She stood in front of officials and recounted her own struggles with poverty growing up in the inner city of New York. In some states such as Mississippi about every 1 in 5 people will live impoverished and nationally the rate is about 13.7% of the population will face a similar struggle. These numbers are too overwhelming too just continue to turn a blind eye to their struggles. They need help and America has the money and resources to help them. So the question is.. What’s the hold up here?
